Lime In The Coconut Wellness Spa Now Open!

For the last ten years, we have striven to provide our clients with the services they need to lead healthy, happy, balanced lives. Since the very beginning, we have provided customized prescription medication as well as a variety of herbal and vitamin supplements. Throughout the years, we have explored various other services that could further support our mission. This week, we are proud to announce the latest and greatest addition to the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy: the all-new Lime in the Coconut Wellness Spa.

Behind The Wellness Spa:
Meet Wendy Ann Rauh (Brickey)

Lime in the Coconut Wellness Spa is independently operated by one of our team members, Wendy Ann Rauh (Brickey). Wendy has been in the spa industry for 20 years. In that time, she has learned that spiritual, mental, and physical health must work together to create optimum wellness.

As a former Owner/Operator of Sisters Day Spa Of Willow Springs, she has always envisioned having a spa that is wellness driven. One of her favorite quotes is from John 1:2, "Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well."

A lifelong learner, Wendy is always working to further her education of human anatomy and the body's natural systems. She strives to help others live healthy, meaningful lives. We are super excited for her addition of the wellness spa to our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Wellness Spa Menu

Her extensive experience in the spa industry allows Wendy to offer a variety of top-quality services to the clients of the Lime in the Coconut Wellness Spa. Specifically, clients may receive...
  • Essential Wellness Manicure - 25 minutes / $45
  • Luxury Wellness Manicure - 60 minutes / $65
  • Essential Wellness Pedicure - 60 minutes / $60
  • Luxury Wellness Pedicure - 80 minutes / $80

All manicures and pedicures finish with our top-of-the-line Dazzle Dry Polish. This polish remains chip-free for 2-3 weeks like traditional gel lacquers, but unlike normal gel coats, the Dazzle Dry Polish removes with ordinary nail polish, strengthens natural nails, is non-toxic, and completely vegan. It dries rock-hard in only five minutes without the use of a UV lamp. It is also free of Nitrocellulose, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Camphor, and other toxic substances.

The Spa also offers a top-quality Paraffin by PerfectSense, made of food-grade ingredients, essential oils, and water. This nourishing, age-defying Paraffin treatment is included in the luxury manicures and pedicures.

Watch for our blog next week for a complete description of each of our traditional spa services and the treatments included in each.

But Wait, There's More!

Beyond the classic manicure and pedicure services, Wendy offers top-quality reflexology as well as hand and foot acupressure services to clients of Lime in the Coconut Wellness Spa.
  • Hand & Foot Acupressure Massage
    • By stimulating pressure points and energy flow through the meridians, acupressure massage can help balance organs all over the body. Acupressure can also help alleviate headaches, tight muscles, and other issues that may result from energy stagnation by releasing tensions that may have built up in the body's meridians.
    • Hand & Foot Acupressure Massage is included in all of our mani/pedi services.
  • Reflexology
    • Hand and foot reflexology is based on the simple premise that there are zones in the hands and the feet that correspond to all other areas of the body. The main idea is that properly stimulating these reflexes can help many health problems in a natural way. Essentially, it is a type of preventative maintenance.
      • 30 minutes - $60
      • 60 minutes - $120

Learn More In Next Week's Blog!

We are thrilled to welcome the new Wellness Spa to our Lake of the Ozarks pharmacy. Wendy's skill and expertise in her profession promise only the best for the clients of our new spa. Be sure to watch for next week's blog to learn more about each of our manicure / pedicure services in detail, as well as our signature line of spa products produced right here at our pharmaceutical compounding lab in Mid-Missouri

In the meantime, call Wendy at (573) 964-6786 for more information or to book your private appointment! On Fridays and Saturdays, feel free to call Wendy's cell phone directly: (417) 252-1785. You can also like her Facebook page here.

Essential Oils For Motherhood: A Quick Survival Guide

It's undoubtedly one of the most rewarding roles in the world, but it's also one of the toughest jobs in existence. Motherhood is a roller coaster ride of bumps, bruises, scratches, tantrums, snuggles, play dates, laughter, tears, and everything in between.

It's impossible to predict what may happen next when there are kids around, so moms have to be prepared to handle whatever situation may arise. This is often easier said than done, and sometimes moms have to make things up as they go along. However, there are certain things you can do help prepare you for the various situations that may present.

Building Your Survival Kit

As a mom, it's important that you build a survival kit you can use to get you through the tough situations that may present. The tools in your survival kit will adapt as your children grow, as diapers and wipes are exchanged for bandaids, emergency snacks, etc.

No matter how old your kids are, there are certain tools that your survival kit should never be without. Essential oils are a prime example. These powerful resources offer numerous benefits that can be beneficial in practically any situation. Keep reading to learn more about the essential oils that should be kept in your mom's survival kit, courtesy of the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy.

5 Essential Oils For Your Motherhood Survival Kit
  1. Stress Away - This mix of Cedarwood, Lavender, Vanilla, Copaiba, and Lime is relaxing and grounding.
  2. Peppermint - The refreshing and invigorating qualities of this versatile oil make it the perfect midday pick-me-up. (Warning: peppermint can have an adverse affect on milk supply and should not be used by breastfeeding mothers.)
  3. Lavender - This soft, soothing scent can be diffused, added to bathwater, or applied to kids' feet to help get a better night's rest.
  4. Peace & Calming - This tangy mix of Orange, Ylang Ylang, Northern Lights Black Spruce, Tangerine, and Patchouli is another great way to set the mood for a relaxing evening or afternoon nap.
  5. Thieves - This is a Young Living favorite. Its uses are as powerful as they are varied; Thieves can be used for anything from immune defense to household cleaning.

It Doesn't Have To Stop There!

Though the five oils we just discussed could be considered the "essential" components of your survival kit (see what we did there?), the list doesn't have to stop there. There are several other essential oils that may come in handy when dealing with the everyday demands of motherhood, such as:
  • Eucalyptus - Purifying and cleansing
  • Clary Sage - Calming and relaxing
  • Bergamot - Calming and confidence-boosting
  • Rosemary - Promotes mental clarity

Find All Your Must-Haves At The Lime In The Coconut

In addition to the full line of Young Living Essential Oils™, our specialty compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks carries a wide array of herbal supplements to help you keep your family in superb health. If you should find yourself in need of prescription medication, our compounding experts can formulate your or your child's prescription specifically to your needs.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! Thank you for all that you do.

How Hormones Affect Weight Loss

For some people, weight loss is a relatively simplistic process. They watch what they eat in order to avoid consuming too many unnecessary calories, and they exercise regularly. Slowly but surely, the extra weight disappears. For other people, the process is not nearly so simple.

The truth is that there are multiple different factors that affect weight loss - the formula often extends far beyond the simple "calories in minus calories out."

At our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy, we dedicate a significant portion of our practice to helping our clients achieve their weight loss goals. A few weeks ago, we wrote about five different factors that frequently affect weight loss:
  1. Stress
  2. Inconsistent (or inadequate) sleep schedules
  3. Dehydration
  4. Genetics
  5. Skipping meals

While it's true that these factors can (and do) affect your ability to lose weight, they don't tell the whole story. Keep reading to learn about another factor that has a significant impact on the body's ability to lose weight.

The Power Of Hormones

You probably guessed it - hormones are another factor that significantly influence the way our bodies gain and lose weight. Hormones are natural chemicals that regulate countless bodily functions, including sleep schedules, mood, metabolism, and weight loss/gain.

Women are often extremely aware of the powerful effects of hormones, as they experience the strong hormonal changes that accompany their cycles every month. Men may not be as acutely aware of the power of hormones on a day-to-day basis (although they may witness it in their female family members!) but they can be just as impacted by hormonal shifts in their bodies.

Three Hormones That Impact Weight Loss

Here is a quick look at some of the hormones that are commonly at play in weight loss challenges.

Cortisol
Commonly referred to as "the stress hormone," cortisol is the hormone our bodies release when we are under significant or extended stress. Cortisol triggers the body to convert sugars into fat so that it can be stored in the body for later use. Unfortunately, many of us don't get a chance to use this stored energy, so it continues to build up over time. It is worth noting that stress isn't the only thing that can cause the body to produce more cortisol - a daily cup of coffee can have a similar impact.

Estrogen
Estrogen is fairly well known as the hormone that is primarily responsible for making women, well, women. It plays a crucial role in regulating female body functions such as menstruation, menopause, and female development. However, it also plays a significant role in metabolism and weight loss. Rising estrogen levels are often correlated with insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and weight gain. Estrogen levels can be thrown off balance by exposure to toxic substances, as well as consuming large amounts of meat or soy products.

Leptin
As the hormone that tells our brain when we are full (and consequently when we should stop eating), leptin plays an important role in weight management. Unfortunately, the copious amounts of sugar we consume on a regular basis makes it hard for leptin to do its job. The short explanation is that consuming large quantities of sugar (which is easy to do even if you avoid cookies, cakes, and other desserts) causes the body to produce excess leptin. While this may not sound like a bad thing at first, the truth is that when the body gets too much of a certain hormone circulating in its system, it begins to to ignore that hormone's message.

It Doesn't Stop There

While cortisol, estrogen, and leptin are commonly at play when the body starts to display weight loss challenges, they aren't the only hormones that can impact weight gain/loss. The endocrine system (or the "hormone system") is immensely complex. There are countless different factors that can influence how your body metabolizes sugars and manages fat storage.

If you are having trouble meeting your weight loss goals, it may be worth investigating how hormones might be impacting your situation. If you would like to learn more, we encourage you to reach out to the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy. Our team will be more than happy to assist you however we can!

11 Household Uses For Essential Oils

Though essential oils have been around for hundreds (and possibly even thousands) of years, it is only recently that they have begun to receive widespread attention and popularity. In recognition of their vast and varied benefits and uses, many people have started to look for ways to incorporate essential oils into their everyday lives.

Are you interested in learning more about how to use essential oils in your home? As a proud Young Living™ Essential Oils distributor at the Lake of the Ozarks, the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy is here to help educate you on some of the different in-home uses for essential oils. You might be surprised by their versatility!

11 Household Uses For Essential Oils
  1. Deodorize Carpets - Mix a cup of baking soda with 5-6 drops of essential oil, and sprinkle onto your carpet. The baking soda will absorb the unpleasant odor, and the essential oil will leave a fresh one in its place. Vacuum as usual. (Source: Quick & Dirty Tips)
  2. Refrigerator Air Freshener - Mix bergamot, lemongrass, grapefruit, or lime essential oil into a box of baking soda and place in your fridge to eliminate unpleasant smells. (Source: Natural Living Ideas)
  3. Bathroom Air Freshener - Place 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil on the inside of a new toilet paper roll every time you replace it. Every time it's used, it will release the fresh scent into the air. (Source: Quick & Dirty Tips)
  4. Reusable Disinfecting Wipes - Instead of constantly throwing used wipes away, make your own reusable natural cleaning wipes by soaking clean wash cloths in a homemade solution of water, white vinegar, and essential oils. (Source: Wise Bread)
  5. Germ Destroyer - Dilute a few drops of lavender or melaleuca essential oil to a water bottle and spray down your gym bag, hotel room, door handles, or other potential germ hot spots. (Source: One Good Thing)
  6. Insect Deterrent - Diffuse peppermint, lemongrass, citronella, lavender, or rosemary essential oil to deter flying insects. (Source: Natural Living Ideas)
  7. Laundry Detergent - There are lots of recipes for homemade laundry soap and fabric softener online. Add a fresh scent to your homemade creation by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil. (Source: Wise Bread)
  8. Sponge Disinfectant - Add a few drops of lemon essential oils to your dish sponge to disinfect it in between uses. (Source: Natural Living Ideas)
  9. Stress Reliever - Add a few drops of chamomile or lavender oil to your bath water. (Source: Natural Living Ideas)
  10. Shoe Deodorizer - Place a few drops of your favorite essential oil on cotton balls, and put one or two cotton balls in each smelly shoe. (Source: One Good Thing)
  11. Floor Cleaner - Make your own hardwood floor cleaner. Fill a large jug with water, leaving room for 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1/4 cup of castile soap, and 30 drops of lemon essential oil. When it's time to clean your floors, combine one cup of this solution with one gallon of hot water. (Source: Wise Bread)

Compounding For Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetes is becoming an increasingly common disease in the United States. According to the most CDC's most recent statistics, 29.1 million Americans (9.3% of the population) suffer from this disease. We hear about it so frequently that the term is almost becoming passe - some people barely give a second thought when they learn that someone they know has been diagnosed with diabetes. Nevertheless, diabetes is still a serious disease with significant challenges, and it is important that it be acknowledged as such.

Keep reading to learn more about diabetes and some of the ways your friends at the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy may be able to treat its symptoms.

What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes (or Diabetes Mellitus) is a disease in which your blood sugar (or blood glucose) levels are abnormally and/or dangerously high. Glucose (which is essentially sugar) enters our system via the foods we eat. In a healthy person, the pancreas produces a hormone called insulin that helps metabolize glucose so that it can be turned into usable energy. In a diabetic person, the body either cannot produce insulin or cannot use insulin effectively. As a result, the glucose is not metabolized, which means that the blood sugar levels are not reduced.

Blood sugar levels that remain high over an extended period of time can lead to a variety of serious health problems, including stroke, heart disease, eye damage, kidney damage, damage to the nervous system, and potentially even the need to amputate a limb.

There are two primary forms of diabetes: "type 1" and "type 2." Type 1 diabetes occurs in children, and type 2 diabetes (sometimes called "adult onset" diabetes) manifests later in life.

Living With Diabetes

Unfortunately, diabetes can never be truly cured. However, there are ways patients can work their condition to minimize symptoms and their associated pain or discomfort. This is especially applicable to patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The most important thing you can do to reduce symptoms of diabetes is to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Eating well, exercising regularly, and maintaining a healthy weight will help prevent excess glucose from building up in your body's systems.

Combating Diabetic Neuropathy

Of the most uncomfortable symptoms of diabetes is known as "diabetic neuropathy." Consistently high glucose levels can damage nerve endings throughout the body. Extremities such as feet and legs are especially vulnerable.

Stinging, burning, itching, and tingling are common sensations that are associated with diabetic neuropathy. According to the Mayo Clinic, patients may also experience problems with their digestive system, urinary tract, blood vessels, and heart.

Topical Pain Creams For Diabetic Neuropathy

If you are experiencing painful diabetic neuropathy, topical pain relief may be a good option for you. Diabetic neuropathy was traditionally treated with oral pain relievers, but as is often the case with standardized medications, patients frequently suffered unpleasant side effects when taking their prescribed doses.

We can compound a topical pain cream designed specifically to assist with your unique situation. By targeting the painful area directly, we can minimize the side effects that may otherwise result from requiring the medication to pass through your digestive system before it can reach the targeted location.

The Lime In The Coconut Is Here For You!

While there may not be an official cure for diabetes, there are definitely ways to reduce the challenges of living with this disease. If you would like more information about our topical pain creams or how compounding may be able to benefit your specific situation, please reach out to our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy. We would be honored to help you in any way we can!
