5 Unbeatable Advantages of Compounding

Ideally, your medication should provide your body with the resources it needs to not only survive, but thrive. Having a healthy body is essential in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and we have seen time and time again that a person's physical health is strongly correlated to their overall happiness.

Our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks is dedicated to helping your body achieve and maintain the health it needs for you to lead a healthy, happy life. Keep reading to learn more about some of the distinct advantages that compounding medication offers.

Advantages Of Compounding

1. Your Prescription Is Unique To You
Compounding is more than a medicinal science - it's an art. Standard prescriptions are mass-produced in massive quantities, with little to no thought given to the individual patients who will be taking them. With compounding, on the other hand, each prescription is made specifically for its intended patient. Essentially, compounding fits the medication to the patient (not the other way around).

2. Compounded Medication Causes Fewer Side Effects
Because they are mass-produced with barely any thought given to the unique individuals who will be taking them, standardized prescriptions often cause numerous undesirable side effects. Depending on the specific ingredients used, these side effects can range from slightly annoying to incredibly dangerous. By customizing all medications specifically to each patient's individual needs, our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy is able to drastically reduce the number of side effects our patients experience.

3. Your Prescription Will Almost Always Remain Available
Massive, multi-million dollar pharmaceutical companies are more concerned with their own profit than they are with the health and well-being of their individual patients. If not enough patients are taking a certain prescription, it becomes unprofitable to continue to mass-produce it and, consequently, it may be taken off the market. Although it may be a smart business decision, it doesn't account for the hundreds of patients who were taking the medication and still in need of it. Fortunately, your Missouri compounding pharmacy may still be able to make the medication you need.

4. Your Prescription Can Come In Several Different Dosage Forms
Maybe your child (or your pet) is sick, but they refuse to take their medicine because they dislike the taste. Maybe you've always had trouble swallowing pills. Maybe the oral pain relievers you're taking are causing unpleasant side effects. When we compound medication, we can make it unique to the patients' needs. Topical pain gels, medicated lollipops, and flavored troches are just a few examples of the different dosage forms we offer.

5. Compounding Pharmacies Are Allergy-Conscious
Standardized medications often contain one or several ingredients that may cause allergic reactions in patients, such as gluten, dyes, preservatives, sugar, and/or lactose. Because they are produced in such huge quantities, the pharmacies cannot accommodate the small percentage of patients who may not be able to take the medication due to allergies. Since compounding pharmacies make all medication unique to each patient, this is rarely (if ever) an issue.

Common Headache Causes & Their Cures

Depending on their severity, headaches can range from minor annoyances to debilitating health problems. There are countless different causes for headaches (some more serious than others) but the end result is always the same: the patient is faced with mild to severe head pain that, in extreme cases, may impede daily functioning.

At The Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy, we are dedicating our careers to the health and well-being of our valued customers. In this week's blog, we're taking a closer look at some of the different causes of headaches and how you can take steps to counteract them.

Migraine Facts:
SOURCE: Migraine Research Foundation

1. Almost 1 in 4 households in the U.S. includes someone with migraine.

2. Migraines are most common between ages of 25 and 55

3. 18% of women and 6% of men suffer from migraines.

4. Migraines tend to be hereditary; if you parent suffered from them, you may be more likely to get them.

Headache Causes & Cures

CAUSE: Tight Muscles In The Back Of Neck
Tension headaches are the most common type of headaches experienced by adults in the U.S., and often occur when the muscles in the back of the night become tightened. This can stem from a huge variety of different issues, including inadequate sleep/rest, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and poor posture.

CURE: Making Self-Care A Priority
If you are tired of suffering from tension headaches, it's time to make self-care a priority. Set aside time to get more rest, stop taking on additional projects, exercise regularly, and seek treatment if you deem it necessary.

CAUSE: Inflamed Sinuses
Sinus headaches occur when a sinus (nasal passages are a common example) becomes inflamed. This may be the result of allergies, infection, or head cold.

CURE: Medication
Most typically, sinus headaches are best treated by antihistamines, antibiotics, or decongestants. CranioSacral Therapy may also be beneficial.

CAUSE: Too Much Medication
If you have been suffering from a headache for several hours (or days), you're probably trying everything you can to relieve the pain. Unfortunately, taking too many painkillers can also lead to a unique form of headache typically called "rebound headaches."

CURE: Alternative Remedies
If painkillers are having an adverse effect, you may be better off exploring alternative pain relief memories. Our CranioSacral Therapist at the Lake of the Ozarks has been extremely effective at relieving headaches through his gentle manual therapy.

Trust The Lime In The Coconut With Your Headache Relief!
