How Your Dog Can Benefit From Veterinary Compounding

Have you ever considered veterinary compounded medication for you dog? Are you familiar with veterinary compounding and how it can benefit your fur baby? Veterinary compounding consists of creating medications for animals to ensure that they get the specific dosage that fits their unique situation. The Lime in the Coconut is here to give you some key information on how veterinary compounding can benefit your dog.

Why Do Dog's Need Veterinary Compounding?

Have you ever tried to give your dog standard medication? Typically, the standard medication that is prescribed to your dog doesn't taste very good or it's in pill form, which can be quite large and difficult for your dog to swallow. Sometimes, veterinarians may prescribe a particular medication for your pet that's on backorder and not locally available. These are all reasons that veterinary compounding can benefit your fur baby.

"Your pet is unique. Shouldn't his or her medicine be too?"

We Make Medication a Tasty Treat

If you have ever tried to feed your dog pills, you know that most animals hate taking medication. Your dog does not understand the medical benefits, he or she just knows that it does not smell good and it DEFINITELY does not taste good. The Lime in the Coconut has found a solution to this problem. Rather than sneaking your dog's medication into something tasty, like cheese or peanut butter, feed your dog something actually tastes good.

We can make your pet's medication taste like:

  • Chicken
  • Bacon
  • Beef
  • Shrimp
  • Peanut Butter
  • Banana
  • Fish
  • Salmon
  • Marshmallow
  • Tuna

When your pet's medication is cleverly disguised as a tasty treat, feeding your dog can be a breeze. We can also deliver the medication as a transdermal gel, flavored suspension, suppository, or a flavored capsule ... whichever best fits the needs of your pet.

In Need of a Compounding Pharmacy That Puts Your Dog's Needs First?

Just like humans, no two animals are alike. We offer compounded medications to ensure that each of our patients get the specific dosage they need for their unique situation, and we don't treat our animal patients any differently. Our experienced compounding pharmacist at the Lake of the Ozarks can design customized dosages to meet your pet's specific needs.

In some situations, veterinarians may prescribe a particular medication for your pet that's backorder and not locally available. In these situations, our talented pharmacy technicians can mix active ingredients together to create a prescription for an otherwise unavailable (or discontinued) product. If you have a fur-baby at home in need of medicine, give us a call to learn more about our veterinary compounding services at the Lake of the Ozarks. We would be honored to help you care for your beloved animals!

Which Essential Oils Are Right For Me?

Have you ever had a headache or sore muscles and just wondered if there was anything else you could take other than the typical, pain reliever, such as Tylenol or aspirin? Essential oils can help you with many things that may cause you pain. In this blog, the Lime in the Coconut is going to give you information on what essential oils are, what they can do for you, and what you can do to help you choose the right essential oils to aid in relieving your pain.

Essential Oils

Essential oils can be extracted from bark, flower, fruit, leaves, seeds, or roots of plants or trees. Just one drop can have powerful health benefits. Essential oils are typically created through the process of distillation, which separates the oil and water-based compounds of a plant by steaming.

What Essential Oils Can Do For You

Using certain essential oils can help you with the following aches, pains, and issues:

  • Reduce cellulite and wrinkles
  • Improve digestion
  • Fight cold and flu symptoms
  • Relax your body and soothe sore muscles
  • Balance your hormones
  • Heal skin conditions
  • Even, clean your home.

"From the sweet aroma of lavender to the stimulating fragrance of eucalyptus, our essential oils ignite your senses and enliven your body. Packed within these pure, botanical essences, you’ll discover rich therapeutic properties that cannot be found elsewhere. Whether it’s a single, potent oil that elevates your spirit, a blended formula that promotes mental clarity, or a massage oil that restores harmonic balance." - Young Living

How To Choose The Right Essential Oils

The essential oil you will need will depend on the issue you are having. You should consult your local experienced pharmacists at the Lake of the Ozarks when choosing the right essential oil. We are happy to help with any question you may have. We also have a machine that will scan the palm of your hand and tell you what essential oils you need.

He is working with The Lime in the Coconut to deliver quality care for BHRT patients.

Pellet Therapy

Studies show that hormone replacement therapy with pellet implants is a proven way of delivering hormones in both men and women. Implants that are placed under the skin can consistently release small doses of hormones.

Pellet Therapy has consistently been proven to improve in the following areas:

  • Sex Drive and Libido
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Insomnia
  • Cardiovascular Health
  • Joint Aches and Pains
  • Mood and Depression
  • Hot Flashes

Hormone replacement therapy has been used in the U.S., Europe, and Austrailia since 1938. Over the past 10 years, this particular form of hormone replacement has grown in popularity, due to advances made and a better understanding of the benefits of fused pellet implants for hormone replacement.

The consistent doses of hormones you will receive have been shown to maintain and improve bone density. Pellet implants don't negatively impact clotting factors, lipid levels, blood pressure liver function, or glucose. Pellet implants bypass the liver.

Why Compounding?

Compounding is the art and science of preparing customized medications for patients. Today, medications are becoming patient driven. We've all seen the commercials for medications that say "Ask your doctors if this drug right for you." Pharmaceutical companies are investing millions in mass marketing to patients, with no thought given to the individual. Compounding medication is customizing it to fit the patient's individual needs.  One medication doesn't always help multiple people. We fit the medication to the patient. We can compound medications to help with a number of problems such as:

  • Acne
  • Arthritis
  • Andropause
  • Autistic Spectrum
  • Alzheimers & Parkinsons
  • Bad Breath
  • Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement
  • Chronic Diaper Rash
  • Chronic Pain Management
  • Chronic UTI's and Vaginitis
  • Dental
  • Exercise & Sports Injuries
  • Fever Blisters
  • Flavoring
  • Fungal Infections
  • Head Lice
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Hospice
  • Hyperhidrosis
  • Infertility
  • Migraines
  • Muscle Aches & Cramps
  • Nausea & Vomiting
  • Chronic Sinusitis
  • Oral Lesions
  • Otic Infections
  • Pain Creams
  • Pets
  • Postpartum Needs
  • Rectal Rockets
  • Scars & Keloids
  • Sore Throat
  • Snoring
  • Warts
  • Weight Loss
  • Wound Therapy
  • Wrinkles & Age Spots

If you are tired of standard medication and those types of medications just aren't working for you, give the Lime in the Coconut a try.

3 Tips to Stay Healthy This Labor Day Weekend

It's Labor Day Weekend! The grill is going, the pool is ready, and the fireworks are set. One of the most popular ways to celebrate Labor Day is soaking up the sun and enjoying some good food with family and friends. Whatever you choose to do to this Labor Day Weekend, there are ways to enjoy your weekend without sacrificing your health. In this blog, our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks would like to give you 3 tips you can use this weekend that can help you stay healthy this Labor Day Weekend.

Tips to Stay Healthy This Labor Day Weekend

1. Choose your foods wisely.

Consider grilling veggies, such as asparagus, zucchini, corn, peppers, onions, and portobello mushrooms. These can be great grilling choices to have as a side choice or even as part of a kebab, instead of fatty red meats. If you want a meat, try choosing some leaner choices, such as chicken breasts, salmon, tuna, or shrimp as some healthier alternatives to the fattier meat choices.

2. Be active and get moving.

If you do plan on indulging in some decadent, but fattier foods, you can try planning more physical activities this weekend. You can try:

  • going for a swim or organizing water games at the pool
  • riding your bike or walking to a Labor Day destination if it's not outside of walking distance
  • if feasible, you could organize a family sand volley ball game or frisbee tournament
  • look into some local races such as a 5K. Many of these tend to take place around the holidays and this could make for a fun family activity.

3. Keep your foods safe from contamination.

Just make sure that when preparing your food, you keep the raw meat away from foods that are meant to be served cold, such as fruits or other dishes such as potato salad. Keep a meat thermometer handy. This can help ensure that all your meats are cooked thoroughly. Perishable foods should not be left out not too long.  Try not to leave foods sitting out longer than 2 hours. If it's hotter than 90 degrees outside, try not to leave the perishable foods out longer than 1 hour.

We hope these tips help you this Labor Day Weekend. Our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the OzarksLime in the Coconut wants to wish everyone a SAFE, but FUN Labor Day Weekend. It can also be good for your health just to take a weekend to unplug and enjoy time with your family and friends this weekend. Don't take this time for granted, take a break from technology, put down the phones, ipads, and laptops and have fun this weekend.

Your Secret Weapon to Weight Loss

There are many health risks to being overweight. The Lime in the Coconut is unique and has certain "secret weapons" that are exclusively available at our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks, that can be very helpful when trying to lose weight. In this blog, we want to review a few major health risks associated with being overweight and give you an overview of Metaid.

Health Risks That Can Be Linked to Being Overweight and Obese

If you are overweight or obese, you may be increasing your risk of having many health related issues, including:

  • kidney disease
  • pregnancy problems, such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and increased risk of a cesarian delivery
  • fatty liver disease
  • osteoarthritis
  • sleep apnea
  • certain types of cancer
  • heart disease and strokes
  • high blood pressure
  • type 2 diabetes

There are a couple different ways to tell if you are overweight.

Waist Size

You can consider an important number which is your waist size in inches. Having too much fat around your waist can increase health risks even more than having fat in other sections of your body.

Body Mass Index

Calculating your BMI is another way to tell if you are either normal weight, overweight or are obese. Your BMI or Body Mass Index considers your height and weight and provides a score to help place your in one of the following categories:

  • Normal weight: BMI of 18.5 to 24.9
  • Overweight: BMI of 25 to 29.9
  • Obesity: BMI of 30 or higher

Metaid: Your Secret Weapon to Weight Loss

The Lime in the Coconut Compounding Pharmacy has a product called Metaid. Metaid is a proprietary blend of essential oils, combined with a low carbohydrate diet, it can make for a great addition to your weight loss efforts. SPECIAL TIP: If you are adding your Metaid drops to your water, be sure to add it to a glass of water rather than a plastic cup, because the liquid can get soaked into the plastic.

What is CoQ10 and Why Should I Take It?

Once you get to a certain point in your life, you may find yourself questioning what medications can either give you a better quality of life or even expand your life. Every body is different but it can be very helpful to know what your resources are when you find yourself needing medication for an illness or deficiency. In today's blog, Lime in the Coconut Compounding Pharmacy is going to tell you more about a natural antioxidant referred to as CoQ10, who should take it, and signs that could mean you have a CoQ10 deficiency.

What is CoQ10?

CoQ10 is a lipid profile antioxidant found in every cell of the body. It also is found in many foods, such as beef, sardines, and mackeral, spinach, broccoli, and cauliflower.  It plays an important role in the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate, a molecule that contains chemical energy that all cellular functions depend on. CoQ10 is an important part of cellular energy production. It has been known to extend cell life and even benefit high energy systems, mainly the cardiovascular, neurological and immune systems.

Who should take CoQ10?

After the age of 35 to 40 years, endogenous synthesis of CoQ10 begins to deline. Women that are over the age of 50 can have an 800 times increased risk of breast cancer if they are NOT on CoQ10.

How do I know if I have a CoQ10 deficiency?

Animals and humans alike have both shown through studies that have decreased levels of CoQ10 can be associated with a wide variety of cardiovascular problems, including angina, arrhythmia, heart failure and high blood pressure. Deficiency also may be traced back to a number of reasons such as:

  • insufficient dietary intake of CoQ10
  • impairment in CoQ10 production
  • drug-induced CoQ10 depletion
  • gene mutations
  • oxidative stress

According to Efficiency, the Power of E, thirteen controlled studies conducted between 1990 and 2004 show that significant CoQ10 depletion was related back to the use of statin medications used to lower cholesterol levels. Problems with blood sugar regulation, oral health, and stomach ulcers have also been associated with CoQ10 deficiency. If you ever feel you may have one of these symptoms that might lead to CoQ10 deficiency, consult your health care physician. They can recommend how much CoQ10 you may need and get your prescription ready.

In Need of CoQ10?

We carry CoQ10 here at our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you have any further questions about CoQ10, who it's normally for, or what it can do for you, please don't hesitate to call the Lime in the Coconut. We are a team of healthcare professionals working together for YOUR wellness.
