Compounding to Relieve Allergy Symptoms

Most Midwesterners welcome the cooler fall weather but some allergy sufferers are less enthusiastic. In Missouri, cool nights can mean ragweed pollen is in the air. Ragweed, the biggest fall allergy trigger, generally begins to release pollen in August and continues into September and October and it’s possible this is the cause of those dreaded allergy symptoms. The ragweed pollen season occurs at a time when children, and school employees and administrators are going back to school. This is a common time for upper respiratory infections (colds) to make their debut and it can be difficult to determine whether symptoms are indications of allergies or a cold. Typically, cold symptoms lessen after 7 to 10 days, so if your runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, headaches and fatigue continue, you may be suffering from fall allergies.

At Lime in the Coconut Compounding Pharmacy we know that allergy sufferers need individual treatment options. We prepare personalized medications based on your specific needs. We can assist your physician by mixing the recommended prescriptions together to create a specialized treatment. Here’s more about allergy symptoms and how your Lake of the Ozarks Compounding pharmacy can help alleviate those symptoms.

Allergy symptoms may include: runny nose, itchy nose, nosebleeds, itchy throat and ears, sneezing, nasal congestion, burning, tearing, itchy eyes, cough, headaches, sinus infections, ear infections or ear pressure, asthma, and fatigue, poor sleep or snoring. Not everyone has all symptoms, that’s why our individual treatment options will address and respond to the specific immune reactions your body is having to the allergy.

At Lime in The Coconut, we have the capability to compound custom medications to treat many of the conditions associated with allergies. Our team specializes in formulating topical creams and gels, eye drops, nasal and throat sprays and easy to swallow capsules. We carefully prepare sinus and allergy medications in the form of liquids, washes and nasal sprays and can compound one pill with several different active ingredients if your general practitioner requests such treatment.

Also, consider CranioSacral therapy as a means to reduce sinus symptoms and headache associated with seasonal allergies. This massage therapy focuses on releasing tensions your body could be experiencing as a result of pollen in the air, and provides effective relief and reduction for some allergy symptoms.

Are you tired of sniffling, sneezing and blowing that nose of yours? We can compound custom sinus medications to treat your allergic reactions as needed. Not only can the benefits of compounding improve your allergy symptoms, but will also enhance your overall health.  Let Lime and the Coconut  Compounding Pharmacy help you find relief so you can stop carrying around that box of Kleenex and get back to feeling your very best. We want you out enjoying this beautiful fall weather as healthy as possible!

7 Indications Your Hormones May Be Out Of Balance

As our bodies' natural chemical messengers, hormones control everything from our bodily functions to our emotional states to our development and growth. If your hormones become imbalanced (even if only slightly), they can wreak havoc on your system. It's important to take steps to bring your hormones back into balance as quickly as possible, but how can you tell when they are out of whack?

7 Signs Your Hormones Are Out Of Balance

Since we specialize in bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) at the Lake of the Ozarks, we work a great deal with both women and men who are suffering from the effects of imbalanced hormones. Here are a few signs we have identified that frequently indicate imbalanced hormones.

1. Inexplicable Weight Gain Or Loss
Your metabolism is in charge of burning necessary calories for energy and storing excess calories for fat. Hormones are in charge of regulating the metabolism, so if you are experiencing sudden weight gain or loss, it may be an indication that your hormones are off-balance.

2. Insomnia
The body's natural sleep cycle is governed by the circadian rhythms. This rhythm, in turn, is predominantly governed by hormones. If your hormones become imbalanced, you may experience a variety of sleep problems, such as reduced sleep quality and difficulty falling or staying asleep.

3. Excessive Sweating
Excessive sweating can be the result of hyper- and/or hypothyroidism. It can also stem from the hormonal changes that frequently accompany menopause and/or hormonal birth control. Excessive sweating is frequently associated with the common menopause symptom known as hot flashes.

4. Mood Swings
Mood swings are possibly the most well-known symptom frequently caused by imbalanced hormones. You could be happy and relaxed one minute, and then suddenly end up in tears - even from something as harmless as burnt toast. Over-charged emotional outbursts frequently accompany these mood swings.

5. Decreased Sex Drive
Because it stems from our species' natural reproductive urges, sex drive is largely regulated by the reproductive hormones (mainly testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone). If these hormones become imbalanced, you may notice a decrease in your sex drive.

6. Chronic Fatigue
In light of the other symptoms we have discussed thus far, you probably won't be surprised to learn that exhaustion is another complaint commonly experienced by people with imbalanced hormones. Inadequate sleep, emotionally-charged outbursts, and inhibited metabolism can all be very tiring.

7. Consistent Cravings
We've all been there - one minute you're focusing on something at home or work, and the next minute you can't stop thinking about a specific type of food or beverage. Cravings are more than irrational urges, however; they are usually your body indicating is in need of a certain nutrient due to a hormonal imbalance.

Curious About Your Hormonal Balance? Contact Us!

The stereotype is that women suffer from greater hormonal challenges than men do, but the reality is that both men and women can experience the challenges often associated with imbalanced hormones. If you would like to learn more about your hormonal balance, visit our compounding pharmacy in Lake Ozark MO. We can offer saliva tests to determine your current hormonal balance, and we offer bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to help bring things back into balance when necessary. We would be honored to help you in any way we can!

Get To Know Elyse Diefenbach!

In order for a business to be great, it has to have great employees. At the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy, we consider ourselves truly blessed to have such an amazing team. From our pharmacy techs to our customer service representatives, everyone is completely dedicated to helping our customers lead happier, healthier lives. This week, we want to introduce you to one particularly outstanding member of our team: Mrs. Elyse Diefenbach.

1. Where Did You Grow Up?
My family owns a farm in Arrow Rock, MO. I was born there and spent my childhood off and on there; however, we have lived all over the state of Missouri.

2. Where Did You Attend School?
I have attended a multitude of schools, including public and Catholic schools. My mom was actually my first and second grade teacher at a little Catholic school. I graduated high school and Troy Buchanan High in Troy, MO.

3. What Brought You To The Lake Of The Ozarks?
I came to the Lake of the Ozarks because of my husband, Joe. We got engaged our senior year of high school. Before we graduated, his family moved to Tuscumbia. I ended up following him down here. We got married that following August after I graduated.

4. Who Is Your Family?
As I just mentioned, I am married to Joe. He is an absolutely amazing man. We have been married for nine years now. We have a shiatzu poodle named Jagger who has been with us since we got married. I have one sister, and Joe has two brothers and two sisters.

5. How Did You Get Started In The Compounding Industry?
Before working at the Lime, I had prepared a few compounds at other pharmacies. I met Sharon a couple of years ago and she told me about compounding. It sounded like something I would enjoy and a whole new facet of the pharmacy world I could learn.

6. What Is Your Favorite Thing About Your Job?
My favorite thing about my job is getting to help people and come up with new and different solutions for doctors to help our patients.

7. What Is Something You Wish Everyone Knew About Compounding?
I wish everyone could know how amazing compounding is. We like to say we are a "problem-solving pharmacy," and we can personalize medication for our individual patients and get to know them on a more personal level.

8. If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World, Where Would You Go And Why?
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would go to the United Kingdom - England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland as well. My husband and I both have ancestry linked back to that region, and I love the history of the area - especially the English rulers.

9. What Is Something Very Few People Know About You?
Hmm... I suppose only a few people know that I love to shoot. My husband has always been into guns and he has gotten me into it as well. In fact, we own quite a few different types of guns. I love to go out on my family farm and shoot at various targets we find in the shed.

10. What Is Your Favorite Thing To Do When You're Not At Work?
When I'm not at work, I love to spend time with my family. My husband and I are always going to see our extended family and spend time just hanging out or shooting guns. I also love to read and play video games with my husband.

Health Benefits of a Wellness IV

When we first introduced The RevIVe Room last spring, we received two primary responses. While most of our clients loved the idea from the very beginning, there were many people who seemed confused by the idea. "A wellness IV? What does that even mean, and how can it benefit me?"

As the only wellness IV service at the Lake of the Ozarks, we are excited to introduce this new product to our area. As more of our clients have the opportunity to experience our wellness IVs, we get more and more enthusiastic responses. For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to try one of our wellness IVs for yourself, our specialty pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help you get a better understanding of the benefits and how they can improve your health.

Health Benefits of a Wellness IV

Wellness IVs offer several unique health benefits that cannot be achieved (or are difficult to achieve) via other methods. For example...

Rehydrating Your Body
While expert recommendations of how much water you should drink on a daily basis, the general consensus is that the vast majority of Americans are severely dehydrated. Chronic dehydration (and even minor dehydration) can lead to fatigue, organ damage, skin damage, and general discomfort. Wellness IVs can be a great way to boost your body's hydration level.

Delivering Nutrients Directly To Bloodstream
When you take supplements orally, the vitamins have to travel through your digestive tract. In the process, as little as 50% of the vitamins actually get absorbed by your body. With a wellness IV, the nutrients can be administered directly to your bloodstream, resulting in a 100% absorption rate.

Boosting Energy Levels
Many of us lead incredibly busy lives. We're so busy running from task to task and activity to activity that we become easily exhausted. Once exhaustion really sets in, it can be hard to bring your energy level back up. By improving your hydration and vitamin intake, our wellness IVs can help you regain the energy you need to not only survive, but thrive.

Conditions That Can Be Treated With Wellness IV Therapy

Wellness IVs are a unique form of therapy in that they can be incredibly beneficial to anyone and everyone, regardless of whether or not they are suffering from a specific disease or condition. However, there are certain conditions that can benefit greatly from IV therapy. Examples of these types of conditions include:
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Heart & Vascular Diseases
  • Migraines
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Recurring Viral Infections
  • Poor Immunity
  • Nutritional Deficiencies

Wellness IVs can also be incredibly beneficial to individuals who have difficulty taking oral supplements or who suffer from common ailments such as the cold and flu.

Testosterone & Beyond: Men's Hormone Replacement Therapy

When we talk about "raging hormones," most people think of women. Puberty, PMS, pregnancy, menopause... it's no secret that fluctuating hormone levels affect women for most of their lives. However, it is a slightly lesser known fact that men experience similar fluctuations in their hormone levels - especially as they age - and that these fluctuations can have serious effects on their mental and physical well-being. Luckily, the team at our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy can help make the process easier!

Andropause - A Quick Overview

Andropause is essentially the male equivalent to menopause. During andropause, men's testosterone levels drop. While this is a natural part of the aging process, it can have some undesirable consequences, such as:
  • Sleep Disturbances
  • Memory Loss
  • Fatigue
  • Low Libido
  • Muscle Loss
  • Mood Changes
  • Decreased Stamina & Endurance
  • Depression
Fortunately, men experiencing these symptoms do not have to live with them forever. At The Lime In The Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy, we specialize in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy - the process of supplementing the body with hormones that are structurally identical to the hormones found naturally within the body. (Check out our previous blog to learn more about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.)

We Can Help Ease The Process!

Andropause therapy offers renewed vitality by off-setting effects of natural testosterone loss, and we are happy to report that we have helped many male patients achieve a greater quality of life through our hormone therapy. Our Missouri compounding pharmacist will work with you and your doctor to determine the exact testosterone replacement required by your body and will use that information to create medication uniquely designed for you.

We can deliver your medication in several different forms, depending on your specific needs. Common dosage forms include:
  • Capsules
  • Topical Creams
  • Troches (Lozenges)
  • Topical Alcohol Gels
