Reasons Why You Should Try Topical Pain Creams

Here at our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks, "medical" takes a friendly turn from our knowledgeable, helpful staff to our relaxed environment. Pain is the most common reason people seek medical attention. In this blog, we are going to discuss why you should consider some of our topical pain creams to help ease your pain.

Types of Pain We Have Treated In The Past

  • Sports Injuries
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Arthritis
  • Migraines
  • Nerve Pain
  • Muscle Pain

How We Help With These Types of Pain

Our staff at the Lime in the Coconut Compounding Pharmacy pull from a variety of different pain management formulas to create a solution that will work especially for the individual's needs. Some of our formulas will include:

  • Combination Drugs
  • Analgesics
  • Muscle Relaxants
  • Nerve Blocking Agents
  • NSAIDs

Commonly Asked Question About Topical Pain Creams

We occasionally receive questions about our topical pain creams such as:

Are pain creams safe to use with other medications?

First, always consult a physician when thinking of using topical pain creams with other medications. Pain cream can be used with most medications due to the active ingredients used. They can cause far lass interaction with other drugs.

Can children use topical pain creams?

In most cases yes, but every case is different. Consult your physician on when and how its ok to prescribe topical pain creams for a child.

Is there a risk of drug addiction when using topical pain creams?

Applying topical pain creams significantly lowers the risk of dependence and addiction.

We Offer Many Forms of Dosages

We know that different types of pain require different types of treatment. Every case is unique. In addition to topical pain creams, our compounding pharmacy in Osage Beach can form a large variety of different dosages, including:

  • Nasal Sprays
  • Transdermal Creams
  • Trouches (lozenges)
  • Ointments
  • Gels
  • Mouth Rinses
  • Transdermals Gels
  • Extended Release Capsules

The Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy makes each topical cream specifically for the needs of each patient. By customizing your medication specifically for your situation, we can be confident that the medication you receive will be the needed strength to treat your unique situation. You are unique, shouldn't your medication be too? Our dosage forms bypass the gastrointestinal tract and may provide optimal results without any side effects. Our patients vary in size, symptoms, and pain tolerance, so commercially manufactured medications often do not provide the right dosage strength. Through our compounding, we can make sure the medication has the exact amount needed.

Commonly Asked Questions Regarding Compounding

Compounding medication has become more popular over time. The Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy is becoming more well know and we occasionally get questions about compounding and how it might benefit you. In this blog, we will discuss some of our more commonly asked questions and answer them.

In What Ways are Normal Drug Manufacturing and Compounding Different?

Compounded medication is prepared in individual does that are customized to meet an individuals' needs. When standard medication is manufactured, it's mass produced and made to meet the majority of patients' needs. So, unlike standard medication, compounded medication is better suited to meet unique needs of each individual patient. This helps reduce the risk of more side effects and can give better results.

Is a Compounded Pharmacy a Regulated Pharmacy?

Yes, both compounding pharmacies and pharmacists are:

  • licensed
  • regulated

by the State Boards of Pharmacy. Compounding pharmacies are constantly required to conform to these new standards the State Boards of Pharmacy enforce. It may be a rigorous process, but serving our valued customers makes it all worth it.

Who does Compounded Medication Benefit?
Compounded medication is completely customized and because of this it can benefit a wide variety of different symptoms and conditions. Examples of some of these situations may include:
  • Arthritis
  • Chronic Pain
  • Fungal Infections
  • Autistic Spectrum
  • Migraines
  • Weight Loss
  • Nausea & Vomiting
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Menopause
  • Diaper Rash
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Exercise & Sports Injuries
  • Wrinkles & Age Spots

The list continues on and on. To see more things compounding can help with, visit our website.

What All Forms Does Compounded Medication Come In?
Compounded medication can come in a pill, a liquid, or a suppository. Each dose is specifically customized for each individual, we can create any type of dosage that is needed. Here are some examples of customized medications.
  • Medicated lollipops
  • Gelatin lozenges
  • Topical gels
  • Transdermal gels and creams
  • EVEN compounded medication for pets

5 Signs You're Experiencing Early Menopause

Menopause is a normal - and important - biological process every woman will go through at some point in her life. Menopause marks the end of a woman's menstrual cycle and the end of her fertility. Most women go through menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, but some women can experience it as early as their mid-thirties or as late as their mid-sixties.

This process is entirely controlled by a huge hormonal shift that occurs within a woman's body. As with most hormonal processes, most women experience a variety of symptoms as a result of their changing hormonal balances. Here are a few common signs of early menopause, courtesy of the team at our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy.

1. Change In Menstrual Cycle
This is the first (but often ignored) symptom many women experience. If you notice that your cycle becomes longer or shorter, or you notice a different change in your pattern, it could be a sign that menopause is coming.

2. Change In Mood
Hormones are directly linked to demeanor and disposition. It is not uncommon for menopausal women to experience mood changes such as irritability, depression, sadness, anxiousness, or general discontentment. This can be disconcerting, as it is hard to pinpoint mood changes on hormonal shifts. Women often blame themselves or various life circumstances for their changing moods, when the truth is that it could simply be linked to a normal biological process.

3. Hot Flashes
In the beginning, hot flashes typically occur very infrequently. You may dismiss your first hot flash as something that occurred as a result of having worn too many layers or having spent too much time outside on a hot day, but it could be a sign of early menopause. Not every woman experiences hot flashes, but for those that do, this symptom often gets much more pronounced before it eventually diminishes.

4. Vaginal Dryness
Vaginal dryness is a common symptom of menopause, as this symptom is often a normal consequence of decreased (or ending) fertility.

5. Reduced Sex Drive
Many women notice a drop in their sex drive during menopause. Sometimes this can be related to painful intercourse that is a result of vaginal dryness, but it can occur even without this other symptom. From a purely biological perspective, libido is linked to the instinct to procreate. As women become infertile, is not uncommon for their sex drive to drop. All is not lost, however - there are ways to boost the libido during and after menopause.

4 Amazing Benefits of Compounding

If you know anything about the Lime in the Coconut Pharmacy, you know that we are the only exclusive compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks. We proudly mix each and every prescription specifically for its intended patient - none of our prescriptions are produced in bulk. This unique attention to detail lends itself to not only stellar customer service, but phenomenal results as well. This week, we are here to explore some of the unique benefits that compound medication offers.

1. Reduced Side Effects

While most prescription medication can benefit patients when used as directed, it can also result in a host of undesirable side effects. From minor irritations such as itching or eczema to serious concerns such as heart attack or stroke, standardized medication can cause any number of unwanted (and sometimes downright dangerous) side effects. At the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy, we don't believe our patients should have to suffer unpleasant side effects in order to treat a certain symptom.

Because each prescription is formulated specifically for its intended patient, we can customize the dosage amounts to meet each patient's individual needs. This not only provides better results, but can minimize the body's exposure to unneeded ingredients that may be responsible for the unpleasant side effects.

2. Fewer Allergens

Allergens are a common concern among many standardized prescriptions. Standardized medication does not have a way to accommodate patients who need a certain medication but are allergic to one (or more) of the ingredients used to make it. Because pharmaceutical compounding requires that each medication be made specifically for its intended patient, we can leave out or substitute ingredients that may cause adverse reactions.

3. Increased Availability

Standardized medication is designed to meet most people's needs, most of the time. If there is not a wide need for a certain medication, it is not profitable for big pharmaceutical companies to continue producing it. If demand for a certain medication decreases, they may discontinue the product.

While they may not be great in number, some people may still have a significant need for the medication that the big pharmaceutical companies are no longer mass-producing. Fortunately, compound pharmacies can make specialized doses of the needed medication.

4. More Dosage Options

Humans are very unique creatures. What works for one person may not work at all for another. For example, many people can swallow pills without any problem, but other people cannot swallow pills because it triggers an intense gag reflex. Compound medication allows each medication to not only contain precise dosage amounts, but also be delivered in customized dosage forms.

If oral pain relievers are making you nauseous, for example, we can compound a topical pain gel that targets the problem area without having to pass through your digestive system. We can also compound medicated lollipops, troches (lozenges), suppositories, and other dosage forms.

Is It Alzheimer's? Or Is It Something Else?

Alzheimer's is one of the most heart-wrenching diseases that affects aging adults. Characterized by loss of long- or short-term memory, difficulty processing information, and inability to recognize everyday items (as well as a host of other symptoms), Alzheimer's disease causes people to forget cherished memories as well as loved ones. In some cases, those affected by Alzheimer's may also become violent or destructive.

Alzheimer's is the result of brain degeneration that occurs over time. Doctors have long believed that Alzheimer's was the result of various lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that had a cumulative negative affect the brain. However, a growing body of research suggests that Alzheimer's may be closely linked to your diet. This new research suggests that the same dietary habits that can lead to Type 2 Diabetes may also lead to Alzheimer's.

Diabetes - A Quick Recap

In previous blog posts, we have discussed the important role that insulin plays in the body - the pancreas produces this specialized hormone to metabolize the sugars that enters the body via the food consumed. When excess sugar is continually consumed, the body must produce large quantities of insulin in order to keep up. However, when there is too much of a certain hormone in the body, the body begins to ignore its signals.

When the body produces too much insulin in attempt to combat continually high blood sugar levels, it may at some point become unable to process the sugar. If the sugar is not metabolized, blood sugar levels remain high. Chronically high blood sugar levels contribute to a host of symptoms typically associated with Type 2 Diabetes.

Insulin In The Brain

Research over the last decade or so has revealed that the pancreas isn't the only organ that produces insulin; insulin is also produced in the brain. Insulin plays a crucial role in brain health - without proper insulin levels, brain cells often die. As a result of this important relationship between insulin and brain cell health, studies have found that individuals who have lower levels of insulin (and/or insulin receptors) in the brain often have Alzheimer's as well.

The main takeaway from this new information is that the dietary patterns that often contribute to Type 2 diabetes may also contribute to brain cell degeneration, which can result in memory loss and the other symptoms associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Type 3 Diabetes

Traditionally, there were two known types of diabetes. Type 1 referred to diabetes that manifested during early childhood. Type 2 diabetes referred to diabetes that developed in overweight adults as a result of long-term dietary/lifestyle habits (specifically, consistently consuming large amounts of sugar and not getting enough exercise).

In light of the new correlation discovered between long-term dietary patterns and brain cell degeneration, many of today's doctors and researchers suggest that the disease previously known as Alzheimer's should actually be given a new name: Type 3 diabetes.

Preventing / Combating Type 3 Diabetes

Clearly, the traditional one-size-fits-all medication approach for treating diabetes or Alzheimer's disease is not sufficient. In order to truly prevent or combat this disease, it's important to look at each individual patient. On a case-by-case basis, healthcare professionals should help patients identify dietary and lifestyle changes to contribute to improved health.

Medication may also be used to alleviate some of the symptoms commonly associated with these disease, but again, the one-size-fits-all approach is inadequate.

At our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy, we can compound your medication to meet your body's specific needs. If you would like to learn more about compounding and how it may be able to benefit your specific situation, please don't hesitate to reach out.
