Health Benefits of a Wellness IV

When we first introduced The RevIVe Room last spring, we received two primary responses. While most of our clients loved the idea from the very beginning, there were many people who seemed confused by the idea. "A wellness IV? What does that even mean, and how can it benefit me?"

As the only wellness IV service at the Lake of the Ozarks, we are excited to introduce this new product to our area. As more of our clients have the opportunity to experience our wellness IVs, we get more and more enthusiastic responses. For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to try one of our wellness IVs for yourself, our specialty pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help you get a better understanding of the benefits and how they can improve your health.

Health Benefits of a Wellness IV

Wellness IVs offer several unique health benefits that cannot be achieved (or are difficult to achieve) via other methods. For example...

Rehydrating Your Body
While expert recommendations of how much water you should drink on a daily basis, the general consensus is that the vast majority of Americans are severely dehydrated. Chronic dehydration (and even minor dehydration) can lead to fatigue, organ damage, skin damage, and general discomfort. Wellness IVs can be a great way to boost your body's hydration level.

Delivering Nutrients Directly To Bloodstream
When you take supplements orally, the vitamins have to travel through your digestive tract. In the process, as little as 50% of the vitamins actually get absorbed by your body. With a wellness IV, the nutrients can be administered directly to your bloodstream, resulting in a 100% absorption rate.

Boosting Energy Levels
Many of us lead incredibly busy lives. We're so busy running from task to task and activity to activity that we become easily exhausted. Once exhaustion really sets in, it can be hard to bring your energy level back up. By improving your hydration and vitamin intake, our wellness IVs can help you regain the energy you need to not only survive, but thrive.

Conditions That Can Be Treated With Wellness IV Therapy

Wellness IVs are a unique form of therapy in that they can be incredibly beneficial to anyone and everyone, regardless of whether or not they are suffering from a specific disease or condition. However, there are certain conditions that can benefit greatly from IV therapy. Examples of these types of conditions include:
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Heart & Vascular Diseases
  • Migraines
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Recurring Viral Infections
  • Poor Immunity
  • Nutritional Deficiencies

Wellness IVs can also be incredibly beneficial to individuals who have difficulty taking oral supplements or who suffer from common ailments such as the cold and flu.

Meet Our Pharmacist & Owner, Sharon Hagan RPh!

At The Lime in the Coconut Compounding Pharmacy, we're all about outstanding customer service and strong customer relationships. We care a great deal about our customers and we are honored to serve people all across Missouri (and even in some of the surrounding states). We believe that in order to best serve our clients, it is imperative that they feel comfortable with each of our staff members. In order to further support and promote our customer relationships, we're introducing the first of our brand new blog series: getting to know the staff at our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy!

Sharon Hagan, RPh
We're kicking things off with the woman who founded our business and who currently serves as our resident pharmacist and compounding expert: Ms. Sharon Hagan Rph. We asked her to answer several questions, and today we're sharing those answers with you. We hope you enjoy this opportunity to get to know Sharon a little bit better!

1. Where Did You Grow Up?
I grew up on Coal Street in Mexico, MO. I was the last of five children, with two older brothers and two older sisters.

2. Where Did You Attend School?
I graduated from Mexico High School in 1977. I later graduated from Moberly Community College in 1992, and finally UMKC School Of Pharmacy in 1998.

3. What Brought You To The Lake Of the Ozarks?
We had a vacation home at the Lake that my family and I would visit on weekends and holidays. We loved it here so much that we finally ended up moving down full-time.

4. Who Is Your Family?
I have the most wonderful husband in the world, Scott. We have been married for twenty-five years. We have two fantastic sons, Nickolas and Darin, and two exceptional daughters-in-law, Amanda and Bailey. We currently have one amazing granddaughter, Jordyn.

5. How Did You Get Started In The Compounding Industry?
Compounding has always been a passion of mine. Everywhere else I worked (before the creation of the Lime), my coworkers would always pass me any prescriptions for compounds because they know how much I loved to do it. In 2006 I was introduced to PCCA, a Houston-based company that provides training, chemicals, and compounding equipment, and the Lime was born!

6. What Is Your Favorite Thing About Your Job?
My favorite things about my job are the positive outcomes our patients experience from our compounding solutions. I love working with all of the doctors in the area to help with solutions for their patients.

7. What Is Something You Wish Everyone Knew About Compounding?
I wish everyone knew that compounding is not merely copying a manufactured product - not at all, in fact! It is the best choice for personalized medication, providing the best possible dosage form for each particular patient.

8. If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World, Where Would You Go And Why?
I would go to Fiji. My husband and I are avid scuba divers and we would love to dive there.

Sharon and her husband, Scott
9. What Is Something Very Few People Know About You?
Hmmm... I suppose few people know that I love to scuba dive. Or that I want to have two horses and am currently learning all I can about how to care for them because I won't get them until I know how to care for them. OR that I'm going to be a grandma again, thanks my daughter-in-law Bailey!!! (Oh yes, and my wonderful son Darin, too.)

10. What Is Your Favorite Thing To Do When You're Not At Work?
When I'm not at the "pharm," I love spending time on my farm! When I'm not in the pharmacy lab, I love spending time with my two labs, Jack and Charlee.

Ease Your Pain With Topical Pain Creams!

Pain: it's caused by so many different factors and felt in so many different areas. If left unchecked, it can be incredibly debilitating. As a result, pain is the most common symptom for which individuals seek medical help. Unfortunately, many common pain relief systems cause several undesirable side effects, including:
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Nausea
  • Liver damage

At our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks, we believe that everyone should be able to control their pain without having to suffer from unnecessary side effects. That's why we have developed a unique line of topical pain creams that are designed to offer pain relief without the severe side effects.

The Advantage of Topical Pain Creams

Compounded topical pain creams offer several advantages over traditional oral medications. Specifically, topical pain creams allow for specific, localized treatment. If you take oral medication to treat a pain in your hip, for example, the medication must travel through your digestive system and throughout your bloodstream before finally pinpointing the problem area. Applying the medication directly to the affected area, on the other hand, offers several benefits. Consider these examples:

Faster Relief
When the medication has to travel throughout the digestive system and the bloodstream, it can take much longer for it to take effect. When the medication is applied directly to the problem area, it can absorb quickly and the relief can be felt much sooner.

Fewer Systemic Side Effects
When the medication is traveling through your body on its way to the afflicted area, it must pass through many unaffected areas in the process. As this happens, the medication can cause moderate to severe side effects and can even damage other organs. When the medication is applied directly to the painful area (rather than being distributed throughout the bloodstream), the risk of systemic side effects is greatly decreased.

The Advantage Of Compounding

When we make pain creams at the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy, we make each cream specifically for each patient. By customizing the dosage to each specific patient's situation, we can be confident that the medication they receive will be the proper strength to treat their unique situation. Additionally, we use active ingredients that are designed to work specifically with the type of pain receptors involved. Since it is uniquely designed to fit each patient's needs, our customized medication greatly reduces the risk of unwanted side effects.

Pains We Can Treat

Pain can be felt in numerous locations and result from a huge variety of different factors. At our Lake of the Ozarks compounding pharmacy, we have successfully treated patients suffering from:
  • Muscle pain
  • Arthritis
  • Sports injuries
  • Migraines
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Nerve pain

4 Myths About Compounding - DEBUNKED

In our humble opinion, compounded medication is the best form of medication available. Unlike standard prescriptions, compounded medication is prepared specifically for each individual patient. Rather than taking medication that works for "most people," our patients can be confident that their medication caters specifically to their unique needs. Despite its remarkable advantages, however, compounding medication at the Lake of the Ozarks is still largely misunderstood. This week, your favorite compounding pharmacy in Lake Ozark MO is here to dispel some of the common myths surrounding our unique trade.

Myth #1: Compounded Medication Is A Form Of Alternative Medicine
The idea of straying from standardized prescriptions can be unnerving for some, but we want to stress that compounded medication is not a form of "voodoo" or "alternative" medicine. Compounded medication is safe, trustworthy medication just like the prescriptions you are used to taking - except it's even better, because it's designed to meet your unique needs.

Myth #2: Compounded Medication Is Not Governed By The Same Types Of Regulations As Other Medication
This myth could not be further from the truth. Compounding pharmacies must meet the strict standards by their boards of pharmacies. Our pharmacy undergoes routine inspections just like every other pharmacy, and we must follow the same types of regulations and standards.

Myth #3: Compounded Medication Does Not Require A Prescription
We have the capability to compound medication for most situations, but we are not authorized to do so without an official prescription from the doctor. Before we can compound your medication, you will need to get a prescription from your doctor. We are honored to have great relationships with most of the doctors in our surrounding area.

Myth #4: Compounded Medication Poses Greater Risks To Patients
Not only does compounded medication not pose greater risks than standardized medication - it is actually safer in many situations. Because compounded medication is customized to meet each patient's unique needs, it typically has better results and fewer side effects than standardized medication doses. You don't have to take it from us, however! Our client testimonials speak for themselves.
