4 Signs You May Be A Good Candidate For Compounded Medication

Are you tired of working around standardized medication that may or may not meet your specific needs? The Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy is here to provide you with a (potentially much-needed) alternative: compounding! Here are a few ways you can tell if you might be a good candidate for compounded medication.

4 Signs You Could Benefit From Compounded Medication:

1. You Are Suffering From Side Effects
One of the biggest drawbacks of taking standardized medication is that it is made it massive batches, with little to no consideration for the individual patients who will take it. Consequently, the dosages typically do not meet the patients' exact needs, which can result in side effects. Compounded medication will be made to your prescription's unique specifications, helping reduce (or possibly eliminate altogether) side effects.

2. Your Medication Is On Backorder
Sometimes standardized medication goes on backorder or can even be discontinued - sometimes without any advance notice. When this happens, our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks can potentially help the hundreds (and potentially thousands) of individuals who were relying on this medication. Since we custom-make each prescription for each patient, we don't have to worry about certain prescriptions going on backorder.

3. You Are Experiencing An Allergic Reaction To Your Medication
Your medication is supposed to make your life easier and improve your health, but unfortunately it doesn't always work that way - especially if you have an allergic reaction to a certain ingredient within your prescription. If you are experiencing an allergic reaction or know you are allergic to certain chemicals, our pharmacy in Lake Ozark MO may be able to use a different formula that avoids the problematic ingredients.

4. You Are Having Trouble Taking Your Medication As Is
Unfortunately, taking your medication is sometimes easier said than done. Some standardized medication is only available in large pills that may be difficult to swallow. Other medication tastes so terrible that it is difficult to stomach. No matter what the challenge with your specific medication is, we may be able to help you overcome it by customizing your dosage form to meet your specific needs. We can flavor our compounds to make them more palatable, or we may be able to change the dosage form entirely. Troches, lozenges, transdermal creams and gels, suppositories, and nasal sprays are just a few of the dosage forms we offer.

Get To Know Elyse Diefenbach!

In order for a business to be great, it has to have great employees. At the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy, we consider ourselves truly blessed to have such an amazing team. From our pharmacy techs to our customer service representatives, everyone is completely dedicated to helping our customers lead happier, healthier lives. This week, we want to introduce you to one particularly outstanding member of our team: Mrs. Elyse Diefenbach.

1. Where Did You Grow Up?
My family owns a farm in Arrow Rock, MO. I was born there and spent my childhood off and on there; however, we have lived all over the state of Missouri.

2. Where Did You Attend School?
I have attended a multitude of schools, including public and Catholic schools. My mom was actually my first and second grade teacher at a little Catholic school. I graduated high school and Troy Buchanan High in Troy, MO.

3. What Brought You To The Lake Of The Ozarks?
I came to the Lake of the Ozarks because of my husband, Joe. We got engaged our senior year of high school. Before we graduated, his family moved to Tuscumbia. I ended up following him down here. We got married that following August after I graduated.

4. Who Is Your Family?
As I just mentioned, I am married to Joe. He is an absolutely amazing man. We have been married for nine years now. We have a shiatzu poodle named Jagger who has been with us since we got married. I have one sister, and Joe has two brothers and two sisters.

5. How Did You Get Started In The Compounding Industry?
Before working at the Lime, I had prepared a few compounds at other pharmacies. I met Sharon a couple of years ago and she told me about compounding. It sounded like something I would enjoy and a whole new facet of the pharmacy world I could learn.

6. What Is Your Favorite Thing About Your Job?
My favorite thing about my job is getting to help people and come up with new and different solutions for doctors to help our patients.

7. What Is Something You Wish Everyone Knew About Compounding?
I wish everyone could know how amazing compounding is. We like to say we are a "problem-solving pharmacy," and we can personalize medication for our individual patients and get to know them on a more personal level.

8. If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World, Where Would You Go And Why?
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would go to the United Kingdom - England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland as well. My husband and I both have ancestry linked back to that region, and I love the history of the area - especially the English rulers.

9. What Is Something Very Few People Know About You?
Hmm... I suppose only a few people know that I love to shoot. My husband has always been into guns and he has gotten me into it as well. In fact, we own quite a few different types of guns. I love to go out on my family farm and shoot at various targets we find in the shed.

10. What Is Your Favorite Thing To Do When You're Not At Work?
When I'm not at work, I love to spend time with my family. My husband and I are always going to see our extended family and spend time just hanging out or shooting guns. I also love to read and play video games with my husband.

CranioSacral Therapy For Infants

The possibilities for healing offered by CranioSacral Therapy are practically limitless. This unique, hands-on therapy has been shown to benefit chronic pain, TMJ, pain from past surgeries, PTSD, paralysis, and countless other syndromes and symptoms. This week, we want to take a closer look at a particularly unique application for CranioSacral Therapy - treatment for infants. If you or someone you know has young children, keep reading to see how they might benefit from CranioSacral Therapy treatments at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Overview of CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a manual therapy that utilizes a very light touch - typically no more than 5 grams, or the weight of a nickel. Using gentle manipulation, our CranioSacral Therapist in Missouri encourages and facilitates the body's natural healing process to overcome the challenges it may be facing. The therapy specifically focuses on the body's inner-most rhythms and systems to promote healing from the core. To learn more about CranioSacral Therapy, view our earlier blog post titled CranioSacral Therapy: Healing From The Inside Out.

CranioSacral Therapy For Infants

Unfortunately, adults aren't the only ones who experience physical challenges; infants also experience a wide variety of symptoms stemming from prenatal challenges, difficult births, and countless other sources. These problems may manifest as difficulty nursing, colic, gastrointestinal pain, developmental delays, and any number of other challenges. CranioSacral Therapy offers a gentle, non-invasive approach to correcting the problems experienced by these infants. Here is a closer look at how CranioSacral Therapy may be able to help resolve some of the challenges infants face.

Issues Stemming From The Cranium

During birth, the infant's skull bones overlap in order to fit through the birthing canal in the mother's pelvis. Known as compression/decompression, this is a natural process that facilitates some of the infant's cranial development as he is born. When this process is prevented or disrupted, challenges may occur down the road. Consequently, an infant born via cesarean section or whose birth is assisted with forceps or a vacuum may experience certain repercussions at a later date. CranioSacral Therapy may be able to help facilitate the healing required to overcome these challenges.

Infant Health Challenges

Babies can experience a huge variety of different health challenges, many of which may be able to benefit from CranioSacral Therapy. The following are examples of some of the conditions and challenges infants face that CranioSacral Therapy may be able to benefit:
  • Feeding Issues
  • Seizures
  • Vomiting
  • Fine Motor Skills Problems
  • Constipation
  • Acid Reflux
  • Ear Pain
  • Sleep Problems
  • Developmental Delays

It's Never Too Late (Or Too Soon) To Seek Help From CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is unique among therapies in that it is designed to help facilitate healing and promote well-being for all stages of life and health. If you are experiencing significant health challenges, CST may be able to help resolve them. If you are currently healthy, it may be able to help ward off potential challenges that could arise down the road. Studies show that both infants and expecting mothers can benefit significantly from regular CranioSacral Therapy treatments. In fact, mothers who receive CranioSacral Therapy while pregnant often experience shorter labors and birth with fewer complications.

If you or or someone you know is expecting or caring for a newborn, contact our CranioSacral Therapist in Lake Ozark MO. Darin Puppel, CST-T is Techniques Certified through Upledger Institute International and has undergone extensive CranioSacral Therapy training. If you would like to learn more about this unique, gentle therapy and how it may be able to benefit you or your family, contact Darin by calling 573-964-3786 ext. 303.

3 Reasons To Consider Compounding For Your Pet's Medication

If you love animals as much as we do, your pets are far more than furry four-legged creatures who happen to share your home with you - they are integral parts of your family. Just like you or your children, there will be times in your pets' lives when they get sick, suffer allergies, or experience some other health challenge that could benefit from medicinal help.

We are proud to offer the best veterinary compounding services at the Lake of the Ozarks. When your pet is need of medicine, we hope you'll remember the Lime in the Coconut Specialty Compounding Pharmacy. Here are a few of the advantages we offer to anyone seeking medication for their pet.

1. We Custom-Make Every Dosage
We talk a lot about the incredible benefits that customized medication offers and they way it helps eliminate side effects by matching each prescription specifically to the patient it was intended for. The same applies to our veterinary compounding. When you give your pets standardized medication, they may not be able to enjoy the full benefits their medication should offer. When we compound your pet's medication, you can be confident that your furry friend will get the exact medication he needs.

2. We Make It Taste Good
If you've ever tried to feed medication to your pet, you know that most animals hate taking medication. Your pets can't understand the medicinal benefits; all they know is that it doesn't smell good and it definitely doesn't takes good. Battling with your pets to get them to take their medicine is a stressful process, but one that we can eliminate with our specialty pet medication at the Lake of the Ozarks - we make your medication so that it tastes like your pet's favorite treats! Here are a few of the flavors we can make your pet's medication taste like:
  • Chicken
  • Beef
  • Shrimp
  • Peanut Butter
  • Salmon
  • Banana
  • Tuna
  • Marshmallow
  • Fish
  • Bacon

When you pet's medication is cleverly disguised as a tasty treat, feeding it to your dogs or cats will be a breeze. We can also deliver the medication as a transdermal gel, suppository, flavored suspension, or flavored capsule - whichever dosage form will best meet your pet's needs.

3. Our Medication Is Always Available
One of the problems with standardized medication is that you cannot always predict when it will be readily accessible. In some situations, the particular medication the veterinarian prescribed for your pet may be on back-order and/or not locally available. When this happens, our compounding pharmacy at the Lake of the Ozarks can mix together the active ingredients to create a prescription that may be discontinued or otherwise unavailable.
